 A Tetrix név hallatán egy madarásznak általában először a nyírfajd (Tetrao tetrix) jut az eszébe. A Tetrix tenuicornis viszont nem fajd, még csak nem is madár, hanem egy sáskafaj.
Ezzel a mindössze 1 cm körüli testhosszú, száraz és meleg élőhelyeket kedvelő sáskával az idén ősszel találkoztam először, pedig Észak-Spanyolországtól Közép-Európán át egészen Ázsia mérsékelt égövi területéig elterjedt és sok helyütt közönségesnek mondható. A sáska - mely engem valamilyen apró őslényre emlékeztet - mohákkal, zuzmókkal, élő és elhalt növényi részekkel táplálkozik.

When I – a birdwatcher - heard the name Tetrix, the first thing what came in my mind is a Black Grouse (Tetrao tetrix).
However Tetrix tenuicornis is not a grouse and not even a bird, but a Groundhopper.
This tiny, 1 cm long grasshopper species prefers warm, dry habitats, that I have seen for the first time this fall, although they occurs in many places from Northern Spain through Central Europe into temperate Asia. The grasshopper - which reminds me of a small prehistoric animal - feed on mosses, lichens, living and dead plant parts.
